Welcome to my Blog!
I'm always a day late and a dollar short... My sister makes fun of me because I don't know the popular culture. Anyway, my father told me about this BLOG stuff. And I asked, "What the heck is a BLOG?" From my vantage point, it's a basically a personal log of my random musings, quotation selections, book reviews, theological tidbits, and thoughts on faith, politics, and current events. I figured I'd get with the times, and get a BLOG for haphazard postings about 3-4 times a month.
About Me For Those Who Actually Care Anyway.
I'm a conservative southern boy from the Last Capitol of the Confederacy, Danville, Virginia! I was born and bred a Congregational Christian, and by God's grace, my eyes were opened to the truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the truth of sovereign grace and the Reformed Faith. I am a twentieth-first century Puritan and a Reformed Baptist in the tradition of C.H. Spurgeon. I am an avid reader (especially if it is not assigned by academia) and hope to turn my love for reading into a focus on theological studies and Bible reading as I prepare for higher ministry aspiration. I am a sinner saved by God's grace... nothing more, nothing less. Soli Deo Gloria!
- I am a Christian indebted to my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, first and foremost. I am an imperfect sinner saved by the cleansing blood of Jesus Christ. Christ is the way, the truth and the life and no man comes unto the Father but by him!
- I am a Congregationalist and a Credo-Baptist and adamantly believe in the doctrines of grace. As C.H. Spurgeon avows, what they call Calvinism is simply a nickname for Biblical Christianity. Presently, as a covenant theologian, the 1689 London Baptist Confession of Faith most closely parallels my theological commitment. Sola Gratia!
- I am a Classical Conservative. Politically, I am a classical conservative in the tradition of Edmund Burke. Conservatism is not an ideology per se, but the negation of ideology. Conservatives presuppose a transcendent moral order and objective moral norms. They reject radical philosophies such as rationalism, egalitarianism, racial or egalitarian collectivism. True conservatives are defenders of the Christian Faith, tradition, private property, private iniative and the market economy as well as ordered liberty. They inform their thought by experience, history and foremost by divine revelation. Bona Ordo Veritas
- I am a Constitutionalist. I believe the U.S. Constitution while not perfect, is the best instrument of governance in history thusfar. I am a strict constructionist of the Constitution and I dismiss the notion of a flexible, loose living constitution as an insidious contrivance to subvert the spirit and letter Constitution by "construction." The Tenth Amendment as Jefferson said is the "foundation." However untenable it might be, I long for the day when the constitutional federal republic of our forefathers is restored to a vision commensurate with original intent of the framers in 1787. Sue quis custodiet ipsos custodes?
- I am a Confederate partisan. I believe in and champion the Southern Cause of 1861, which is the American Cause of 1776, and I ground that belief not in mere southern sentimentalism and nostaglia, but with a firm grasp of history, the Constitution, and the covenant origins of the American polity. Deo Vindice!
- I am a Patriot. Benjamin Rush avowed, "Patriotism is both a moral and a religious duty. It includes not only the love of our neighbors but of the present and of the future generations." My patriotism compels me to contribute to civil society and defend my kith and kin and my community. "Patriotism, not nationalism, is the ideal political attachment," avows Erik von Kuehnelt-Leddihn. Amor patriae!
- I am a Western Traditionalist. The Western tradition has several pillars, and what has made it so dynamic and persevering is the Christian dynamism which has animated it. America from its founding was a continuity of the Western tradition, and sought to fortify its best attributes. America's pillars and historical tradition is a veritable tale of five cities: Jerusalem, Athens, Rome, London, and Philadelphia. Russell Kirk's Roots of American Order spells it out. Aut disce aut discede!
- I am politically incorrect for conscious' sake and I am too well read to conform to the tired ideologies, abstractions, and trendy doctrines foisted on me from childhood. Don't be surprised if I trample on sacred cows like FDR, "democracy," and the relativistic notion that all religions are equal. Contra Mondum!
I do not plan on writing that often as my intent is not to get sidetracked from my daily responsibilities... but every now and then I'll shed my two cents on things which capture my fancy.
